REALSKI™ FAQ

Q. Why is REALSKI only available on the iPhone®?
A. REALSKI requires the capabilities of the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, namely the compass as well as the GPS, accelerometer, and camera. It also utilizes the features of the iPhone OS 3.1 or higher.

Q. When is REALSKI available?
A. REALSKI is available now with five resorts and a demo mode in the Apple iTunes App Store for free.

Q. Which resort maps are available for REALSKI?
A. The Lite version of REALSKI includes maps for five resorts: Copper Mountain, Deer Valley, Killington, Northstar at Tahoe, and Stevens Pass. Maps for over 100 major mountain resorts in North America are available with REALSKI using in app purchase.

Q. Who can use it?
A. REALSKI can be used by anyone with an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 who has downloaded and installed the app.

Q. Where does REALSKI work?
A. You can download and install REALSKI wherever you have coverage with your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4. You can use REALSKI without data connectivity anywhere on a mountain with a clear view of the sky to maintain a GPS position fix.

Q. How does it work?
A. REALSKI utilizes patent-pending technology to overlay geographic features and points of interest from a spatial base map using the iPhone’s camera, GPS, compass, and accelerometer. This combination of phone capabilities enables RTP to augment the reality provided by the camera with digital graphics. REALSKI layers information on top of the visuals picked up by the camera using current location and elevation detected by the GPS, the compass heading and device accelerometer. Augmented reality (AR) mobile apps are new, and RTP’s REALSKI is the first available for major mountain resorts. Patents and trademarks are pending.

Q. Is REALSKI supported outside North America?
A. No. As the required spatial data becomes available for Europe, Australia, and other areas, REALSKI will be able to support more maps.

Q.  Can I see how REALSKI works?
A.  For those who are curious about the AR experience of REALSKI , but don’t live near one of the five initial resorts, a demonstration mode allows users to sample the AR view from any location. The demonstration mode “transports” the user to a pre-defined location at one of the initial resorts to see what is nearby as if they were really there. More information about REALSKI is available now at www.rtp.com/REALSKI.

Q. Can REALSKI provide real-time turn-by-turn directions?
A. No, and it is not recommended to use REALSKI while actually skiing or snowboarding. Skiing is inherently dangerous. Don’t make it worse by attempting to use REALSKI while you’re moving. REALSKI is for entertainment purposes and not intended for primary navigation.

Q. Can REALSKI show me details about mountain facilities such as where the restrooms are?
A. Yes, REALSKI displays on-mountain facilities like lodges, restaurants, and restrooms.

Q. Will REALSKI Track my vertical feet and map my on-mountain activity?
A. No, currently the application will not run “in the background” to log the GPS position fixes necessary to track distances traveled.

Q. How much memory does each resort map take?
A. It depends on the size of the resort, but most REALSKI resort maps are less than 600k.

Q. Does REALSKI impact battery life?
A. Not any more than other iPhone applications that use the GPS, camera, and other functions of your iPhone.

Q. Can I listen to music while I use REALSKI?
A. Yes, you can start playing music and then start the REALSKI application.

Q. When will REALSKI be available on other devices?
A. As devices become available with the required capabilities and technology to support AR applications, RTP will consider adapting REALSKI to new devices.
